ALTERNATIVE FUELS
Alternatives to gas-
mines, landfill and sewage gas fuels in recent years ~ predominantly for reciprocating engine rather
than gas turbine prime movers, owing to site capacity lending itself to a number of relatively small units.
The need to reduce harmful pollutants exhausted to atmosphere and associated commercial
incentives introduced by Governments worldwide, is currently driving technology to
enable, for example, efficient burning of hydrogen, bio-
IDGTE keeps abreast of new technology in these areas, as may be seen from the list of papers presented and available for download. >>
Many of these papers cover design of new plant for a wide variety of fuel types, in advance of commercial installation. The Institution will be continuing with its unique “user” focus and reporting on such plant as the prime movers start to provide a service history.
Alternative Energy Conversion Prime Movers
Many organisations have a power “mix” that may embrace wind turbines, hydrogen cells, wave, incineration for steam and other such alternatives to the reciprocating engine and gas turbine.
Institution member services are extending to reporting on such technologies from operating plant, to enable valuable comparisons to be made, as well as our providing an easily accessible source of background information.
